Banned Book Club: Night

Join Tucson Jewish Museum & Holocaust Center for a discussion of Elie Wiesel’s acclaimed memoir-novel, Night. Perhaps the most impactful and well-known novel of the Holocaust, it charts Wiesel’s experience throughout the Shoah. In this discussion group, we’ll discuss the implications of such a book facing censorship as well as the novel’s legacy in its own right. This conversation will be moderated by local educator Dr. Lori Riegel.

Lori Riegel, PhD teaches English Language Arts, and is the English Language Learner Designee, at Desert Rose Academy.  She has been a Jewish educator for over 30 years.  Riegel holds a PhD in Educational Leadership from Lesley University, with a Certificate in Jewish Education from Hebrew College.  She developed a course, Holocaust Literature, for students to earn an 11th or 12th grade English credit, which has been offered at Mountain Rose, Pima Rose, and Desert Rose Academies.  She is a “3-G,” or third generation Holocaust survivor, a granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, who lived in Skokie, IL, and eventually made their home in Tucson, AZ.
