Jenn Budd in conversation with Mo Goldman

Jenn Budd was a Senior Patrol Agent with the US Border Patrol in San Diego, a Senior Intelligence Agent at San Diego Sector Headquarters and an Acting Supervisory Border Patrol Agent from 1995 to 2001 when she resigned in protest due to the rampant corruption and brutality she witnessed daily. After nearly 30 years of border experience on both sides of the issues, she came to the realization that our immigration policies have created an intentionally brutal system that, in her opinion, creates impossible and untenable hurdles for asylum seekers.

Budd’s work and testimony have led to direct changes in Border pursuit policies, exposed the rampant Border Patrol rape culture, removed the illegal and secret coverup teams used by the agency, exposed the inhumane open air detention sites that were once hidden by the federal government, and she is now considered the most informed expert on Border Patrol. Budd routinely appears on national and local news programs, community panels and speeches, podcasts and radio programs. She is often quoted and consulted on Border Patrol articles for outlets such as The New York Times, Newsweek, The Nation, The Guardian, Washington Post, Daily Kos, NPR, Telemundo, CNN, Politico, Mother Jones, John Oliver, Samantha Bee and many more. She can also be found in the halls of Congress speaking with members on humane immigration policies, or as a keynote speaker at law and immigration conferences.

Jenn is the author of the acclaimed memoir "Against the Wall: My Journey From Border Patrol Agent to Immigrant Rights Activist" (Heliotrope Books, 2022). The book was selected as a finalist in Publishing Triangle's prestigious Randy Shilts Award and received an honorable mention in the Los Angeles Book festival Awards.

Maurice (Mo) Goldman holds a J.D./M.B.A. from Hofstra University.  He has served on multiple national American Immigration Lawyers Association's (AILA) committees, including the Family Law and Annual Conference committees.  He is a past Arizona AILA Chapter Chair and trustee to the American Immigration Council. He has lectured on a variety of immigration subjects and currently serves on the boards of the ASISTA, Border Action Network, and Immigrants List.  Mo has received numerous awards for his pro bono work in both Arizona and New York, including the AILA Joseph Minsky Young Lawyer Award for outstanding contributions in the field of immigration and nationality law.
